Shoe Fitting in more detail

Your feet are your foundation. No two are the same from size and shape, sensitivity to arch height and the way they move. That’s why taking the time to get the right fit is essential.

Firstly, as a trail running specialist shop it won’t be a surprise that the bulk of the shoes we stock and sell are trail. From our experience trail runners and finding trail shoes has played second fiddle when it comes to getting fitted correctly… but we’re here to change that.

At Diverse Terrain, we take the time to understand your feet, your movement, and your running goals. Finding you the genuinely right shoes is first and foremost in the shop and this is especially important if you run long distances or love big adventures!

Online shoe guides and reviews can be very helpful however what they don’t fully account for is the specifics of YOUR FEET, GAIT/MOVEMENT, INJURY HISTORY or RUNNING PROFILE.

In store we consider every customers’ individual needs and a range of aspects from foot type, how you move, to the type of trails or locations you’re running (or walking) to find shoes that will work in harmony with you.

THE BENEFITS OF GETTING FITTED AT OUR SHOP

We will:

o   Talk to you about your running, current/past injuries, targets and even the shoes you use or have used in the past

o  Examine your feet and measure up to get accurate information that goes into shoe selection

o   Look at your running movement to understand key details about loading, stability and efficiency

o   Select 2-3 options of shoes that you then test on our treadmill so you get to feel the shoes in motion

o   Then together determine which option is right for your needs and goals

o   We also consider other elements e.g. sock choice – finding those that will work together with your feet and shoes.

Why Getting Your Running Shoes Fitted Properly Matters

Running Should Feel Good

When your shoes fit well, everything becomes more enjoyable, your stride, your confidence, your time on the trails.

Supporting Natural Movement

When you run, your body moves through a cycle of landing, loading, and taking off. A wellfitted shoe works with your natural movement, supporting how your feet behave at each stage and helping everything flow more efficiently.

Reducing Injury Risk

Wearing shoes that don’t suit your feet, running style or terrain can result in inefficiencies, contribute to injuries or slow down recovery. The right fit helps prevent common foot issues and supports your body where it needs it most.

Connection With the Ground

In the past trail shoes opted for less cushion in favour of giving you feel and response to the terrain beneath you. That connection gives you control and confidence. However, thinking evolves and trail shoes have developed with varying levels of cushion to help tackle a variety of off road surfaces from hard dry trails to softer, muddier paths.

Matched to Your Terrain and Your Performance

Each surface demands something different. The right shoe for the right terrain improves performance, protects your feet, and makes every run more enjoyable. Our approach is an 80/20 rule; identifying shoes that deal with the surface you'll spend 80% of your time on.

Comfort That Lasts

You spend a lot of time in your shoes. A proper fit keeps you comfortable mile after mile, preventing hotspots, rubbing, and reducing fatigue.
